Nourishing Yin in the Summer with Food
As the summer heats up, it is important to nourish our Yin energy so that it can balance the Yang energy of summer. Foods are considered to have energetic essences in Chinese Medicine, and there are many foods that can help cool us, or to nourish our Yin. This includes many of the summer fruits, such as watermelon, stone fruits like peaches and apricots, sprouts, snow peas, cucumbers, spinach and cool summer salads. My favorite way to nourish Yin on a hot summer day is to make a yin nourishing tonic with coconut water. Start with a bottle of water or coconut water.
